About

Kristine Aguilar is a studio potter living on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Coast Salish peoples (Vancouver, BC, Canada). Born in Manila, Philippines, Kristine is the hands behind LUPA, a Tagalog word that translates to land, soil, earth, country. LUPA is an acknowledgement of her Filipina background as well as the wild materials she uses in her practice.

Kristine received a Fine Arts diploma from Langara College and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. She has participated in international artist residency programs in Japan (Home of Clay Arts), Mexico (Ceramicá Suro) and Canada (Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Medalta AIR). Her work has shown in galleries across Canada and the United States and included such publications as The Journal for Australian Ceramics. Kristine is a ceramic educator and has been teaching at the Shadbolt Centre since 2018. She is also an active member of the Dusty Babes Collective.

In 2023, Kristine received the Maureen Wright Bursary from the Northwest Ceramic Foundation. You can read her account of her travels to a workshop in Portugal: https://www.nwcf.ca/kristine-aguilar-at-the-cederia-home-for-creativity/
